SiftProxy is a desktop application that searches secondhand and new item listings across eBay, Reverb, and a number of independent vendor and forum sites, on your behalf. This page explains what data the app touches and where it goes.
SiftProxy runs entirely on your own computer and talks directly to eBay, Reverb, and the other services you configure it to use — your actual searches, results, and credentials are never sent to any SiftProxy server. The one exception is the small, anonymous usage count described below.
Everything SiftProxy remembers — your saved searches, favorites, dismissed listings, and settings (including any API keys or email credentials you enter) — is stored in a single local file on your own computer. It is never uploaded anywhere by SiftProxy. Deleting that file, or uninstalling the app, removes all of it.
To search eBay and Reverb, you provide your own free developer credentials (an eBay Client ID/Secret, and a Reverb personal access token). When SiftProxy searches those services, it does so directly from your computer using your own credentials — not through any SiftProxy-operated server. eBay's and Reverb's own privacy policies govern how they handle that traffic; SiftProxy has no visibility into it.
The independent vendor and forum sites SiftProxy also searches (Chicago Music Exchange, Wildwood Guitars, RetroFret, and others) are queried the same way — directly from your computer, using each site's own public product-search data, with no API key or account required.
Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are never searched automatically. SiftProxy only ever opens a matching search on those sites in your own web browser, when you click a button to do so.
If you turn on email alerts and provide your own SMTP details (for example, a Gmail account and app password), SiftProxy sends that email directly from your computer through your own email provider. No SiftProxy server is involved in sending, storing, or reading that email.
SiftProxy reports a small amount of anonymous usage data to siftproxy.com, so real numbers can be shown publicly on the homepage instead of guessed at. The first time the app runs, it generates a random id that identifies your install only — not your name, email, or any account. From then on, the app reports that id along with one of three events: the app was opened, a search ran, or you clicked through to a listing. That's the entire contents of every report — no search keywords, no listing details, no results, and no IP-linked profile are ever included or stored. This reporting is on by default and isn't currently something you can turn off.
